CAREER

Mr. Wiegand earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Iowa and a J.D. from the University Iowa College of Law. He is a member of the bar of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Mr. Wiegand worked as a Senior Editor for the Lincoln Laboratory Journal, for Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Lincoln Laboratory. As Senior Editor of the Journal, Mr. Wiegand edited comprehensive articles on current major research at Lincoln Laboratory. Lincoln Laboratory conducts research and development pertinent to national security on behalf of the military services, the Office of the Secretary of Defense, and other government agencies. The core competencies of Lincoln Laboratory are in sensors, signal processing, embedded computing, communications, integrated sensing, decision support, and advanced electronic technology. Mr. Wiegand also authored and edited articles for EDN magazine and EET Asia.

Prior to his work as an author and editor, Mr. Wiegand worked as a design engineer. His design activities included digital and analog electronics design, software and firmware development, and microprocessor-based system design.

In his nearly twenty years in the field of intellectual property law, Mr. Wiegand has gained experience in various aspects of intellectual property practice, including the preparation and prosecution of patents, trademarks, and copyrights. Mr. Wiegand’s patent prosecution experience includes the prosecution of patents in the fields of semiconductor devices, communications, business methods, computer-related inventions, control systems, medical devices, and mechanical devices. Mr. Wiegand also has experience in transactional agreements, trademark prosecution, and patent opinions.
