It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of our good friend and partner, David M. Mello.
A founding partner of this iteration of the firm, Dave was integral in creating everything that is Onello & Mello. He was a leader, staunch advocate for clients, an active community member, but most importantly, he was our friend.
Dave was equally effective at mentoring and counseling both colleagues and clients. He was known for bringing perspective and judgment, but also passion. Always one for a challenge, Dave would take on the counseling of start-ups or entrepreneurs as seriously as he did mentoring young attorneys and staff. It was all linked in Dave’s mind — develop others professionally and the benefits speak for themselves.
Dave was genuine and purposeful in everything he did. In his presence, one always felt welcomed and cared for, no matter the relationship or situation. Dave enthusiastically shared his time and experience. He took particular joy in seeing those around him succeed.
Before practicing law, Dave studied electrical engineering at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, where he was a member of Eta Kappa Nu and graduated cum laude. This led him to working for the United States Air Force in its Electronic Systems Division as a Program Manager/Electrical Engineer. While working as an engineer, he attended Suffolk University Law School at night, graduating cum laude.
He was an active member of professional and legal organizations in the Boston area. Dave was a longtime member of the Boston Intellectual Property Law Association, where he served as Board Member. He was also an active member of the UMass Club, where he served on the Board of Governors.
Dave’s impact through his intellect, generosity, and commitment to others will never cease to be part of the fabric of Onello & Mello.
Onello & Mello extends its deepest condolences to Dave’s family, friends, colleagues, clients, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Dave’s memory will continue to brighten the halls of Onello & Mello. We are fortunate to have had him in our lives. We will miss him dearly.
