Summary of Experience

Mr. Mosley earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering with a Minor in Film Studies from Boston University, an MFA in Writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts, and a JD with dual concentrations in Intellectual Property & Innovation and Environmental & Energy Law from Northeastern University School of Law (NUSL). John is admitted to practice in California and Massachusetts and before the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO).

John was previously an associate at an AmLaw Global 200 law firm. Prior to that, he completed legal internships with two nonprofits focused on clean-energy technology and policymaking, and also with a boutique land use and environmental law firm. He further served as a Student Attorney with the IP CO-LAB, NUSL’s intellectual property law clinic, an Editorial

Board Member on the Northeastern University Law Review, and a Research Assistant supporting Professor Sonia Rolland’s work on climate justice and global trade relations. Along with three fellow NUSL students, John also competed in the 2022 USPTO National Patent Application Drafting Competition, winning the Eastern Regional Round and advancing to the National Finals.

John’s legal practice has focused on all facets intellectual property related to electromechanical systems, autonomous vehicles, software, computer-implemented methods, medical devices, firearms, and consumer products. He has engaged in public service initiatives by providing pro bono assistance to clients with respect to patent, trademark, copyright, data privacy, and immigration matters. John’s legal experience is further complemented by his substantial industry background in mechanical engineering, product design, technical writing, consulting, and regulatory compliance, where he has supported product development and innovation in sectors as diverse as sporting goods, electronics, chemical manufacturing, automotive accessories, and engine-driven products.
